Properly maintaining asphalt through these practices not only prolongs its lifespan but also improves the pavement’s appearance and safety. Our Asphalt Repair Process

Curious about our asphalt repair process? Here is the step-by-step process that we follow to ensure your asphalt is repaired efficiently and correctly:

Preparation: The first step in the cracksealing process is to prepare the pavement surface by thoroughly cleaning all cracks.

This is typically done using pressurized air to blow out any debris, dust, or vegetation that may be present in the cracks. If there are any stubborn weeds or other vegetation, a grazing wheel or torch may be used to remove them.

Sealing: Once the cracks are clean and free of debris, they are ready to be sealed.

Hot rubber crackseal material is applied to the crack using a heated wand or portable banding machine. An overband seals the top of the crack and allows material to penetrate the asphalt.

Cooling: After the crackseal has been applied, it must cool before use by traffic.

This process can range from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the sun’s intensity and the temperature of the day. Once the sealer is dry, any excess material is removed using a scraper or blade.

Final Inspection: Once the cracksealing process is complete, a final inspection is conducted.

At this stage, we ensure that all cracks have been properly sealed and that the aggregate material has been evenly applied. Any areas that require touch-up or additional sealing are addressed at this time.

Cracksealing is a crucial maintenance practice that can help to extend the lifespan of asphalt pavement and reduce the need for costly repairs or replacement. With this tried-and-true process in our toolbox, Sipes Asphalt & Concrete is ready to address any asphalt repair project.

Frequently Asked Questions about Asphalt Repair

Generally, asphalt is applied black. There are additives that can be mixed in the asphalt to shade for additional colors and styles.
These will fade in time. After a few months, they will begin to become less noticeable. Compaction rollers are a critical aspect of producing a long-lasting quality pavement. A 90% compaction level is ideal.
Oil, gasoline, and brake fluids act like a solvent and can cause the asphalt to soften and break down the binder.
Plant or grass seeds that make it below the asphalt surface before paving can sprout up in the parking lot. Higher compacted asphalt levels will tend not to get as many vegetative growths. If grass does appear, the best way to eradicate it is to use chemical sprays to kill the plants.
